It's funny, when I first ventured into this forum I was caught in a whirlwind of paranoia. After defending myself, and being validated by some very kind people I decided to stay. Things seemed to be getting better, but it was just the calm before the storm. The forum is again inundated with sophomoric, obscene, multi-named posters.

Since I mostly lurk, why would I care? I care, because through this forum, and Chatzy I have met quite a few kind and generous people who love all things Grateful Dead. I have learned much from them. They have generously shared both their knowledge, and their music. As Jerome said, this is the best place to get Grateful Dead show recommendations and I have been pointed toward numerous shows that I probably would have otherwise missed.

So, yes I do care and since I care I am willing to hang in here in hopes that those who would destroy this place will see that it will not fall easily. In countless neighborhoods around the country there is a program known as "Take Back The Night", when caring residents band together and reclaim what is rightfully theirs, the ability to walk their neighborhood without trepidation. It is time that we do the same thing. As suggested in an earlier thread, when one of the multi-posters attacks, reply with a show recommendation..."Take Back The Thread" and thereby "Take Back The Forum".

Peace to this house and all who gather here.
Bill

Hey user--it'll pass, the meek shall inherit the thread...or the forum.

In the meanwhile--hope you have considered an early era show to set your mind at ease. Fall of 68 thru fall of 70 almost cannot keep from satisfying...

I'm considering the '66 Avalon compliation formerly known as "Vintage Dead" and "Historic Dead". Or maybe even "The Emergency Crew" demo .

don't miss Pig saying to Jerry, "that's it...play your guitar" (or maybe "there you go...play your guitar") a classic on stage comment in Midnight Hour we all discussed hereabouts a year or so ago...

kudos to the thread a few days back about the Charlie Miller 5-30-1969 tape, which pointed me to the bit torrent site that had the Miller and a 2 disc set of mostly uncirculated 1966 GD -

Hey now, it has Twist & Shout!
Also a blues jam that is very similar yet different than the one from 3-12-1966

http://www.archive.org/details/gd66-acid-test-supplement.sbd.unknown.9514.shnf

LMA archive version has Pigpen on keyboards, the uncirc. doesn't.

a partial You Don't Have To Ask with good energy, a Midnight Hour that has the plug pulled - good for a laugh, amusing banter at the end...

3 versions of Viola Lee Blues with at least one thats new to me,

and...

I'd like to write a review; meanwhile, here are the set lists from the text*

How much is really uncirc.?

I can't say, it's hard to find much of it anywhere besides the excellent Schoolgirl>You Don't Love Me>Schoolgirl and Pigpen Rap (you can stream those here).

*CD #1
Possibly 2/12/66 - 7" reel 1/2 track at 7.5 IPS:
Viola Lee Blues
Don't Ease Me In
Tastebud

"Longshoreman's Hall 1st Night" - 7" Reel 1/2 Track @ 15IPS:
Beat It On Down The Line
Schoolgirl>You Don't Love Me>Schoolgirl (original reel cuts)

Unlabeled Reel:
Pigpen Raps
Billy, Bobby, and Pigpen>
New Orleans (sort of an attempt)
Twist and Shout

CD #2
"Longshoreman's Hall 3rd Night" - 10" Reel 1/2 Track @ 15IPS:
It's A Sin
Viola Lee Blues
Midnight Hour
Beat It On Down The Line
Blues Jam (with Jorma and Jack) Note: reel runs out before the end

Pauley Ballroom #2 (no date) - 10" Reel 1/2 Track @ 15IPS:
You Don't Have To Ask - Phil Talks About The Move To L.A.
Viola Lee Blues (some static at start of song)
I Know You Rider
Midnight Hour (plug pulled)

My two favorites from '66 are these -
Really cool Midnight Hours, and a more poppy/bluesy Dead!

I got Vintage Dead (9/16/66) when it came out in '73, and esp. dug the I Know You Rider and Dancin In The Street,
but yeah, the Midnight Hour on that tied it all up really nice!

But have ya heard the Primal 1966 Uncirulated Gems (sic) yet?

I do too and you should care. This place stinks these days because of frauds.

Look my tactics are completely lame but Ghost of Many Names fell for it and was exposed for the fraud he is. How was he exposed? For a guy that doesn't care about this place anymore he sure did come back and start fooling around with the order of things around here today. Why does a person that doesn't post here anymore do that? Because he has always been at the root of strange things around here. If you expose them than maybe they will go away. Maybe.

You know...I care...but it seems not as much as I used to. I have not been here in two weeks due to job constaints...foreign countries, no internet access etc.... but I don't know if it's the bullshit posts...because if you think about it they have allways been there or due to my own self stagnation if you know what I mean....and to all I promised The Jerry Discs to....they are being burnt and will be mailed next week...thanks for your patience...I am a man of my word. But here's part one of disc one.....[...]

I do, but less and less. I'm going to start working overtime soon so I imagine I'll be rarely posting once that starts. I'll still come here for my show recommendations, though, because this is the best place for that.
